Project descriptionSupport students who have graduated from immersion programs
to continue their post-secondary education in French

Our main objective is to understand why students from immersion programs choose to study in one of the languages - French / English. Specifically, we want to identify the needs of high school immersion students who wish to pursue studies in French in teachers training programs with the future aspiration to teach in immersion. In this project, we aim to identify the impact of this choice for immersion graduates: their confidence in the second language and their ability to participate fully in a bilingual society. Also, this research will provide a better understanding of immersion language learning, especially the cognitive, affective and social effects of the immersion experience.

Research questions :

  1. How many immersion graduates choose to continue their education in French? in English ?
  2. Why do students make these choices?
  3. What resources are available to support immersion students and students who choose to study in French?
